Is This Holding You Back?
Is This Holding You Back? Public Speaking can be a nerve wracking experience. So much so, that some people will avoid the opportunity to present their company in public. As Mark Twain once said, “There are 2 types of speakers in the world – the nervous and liars.” So, which one are you?
I know only too well how intimidating it can be. What if I sound like a mumbling fool? What if I screw it up and lose my credibility? These are typical thoughts that run through my head. And I’m sure I’m not alone! But it’s important when you run your own business or are responsible for growing it, that you develop skill in this area. There’s a myriad of books on the subject, but the bottom line is Practice, practice, practice! The more you do it, the less you will be affected by a paralysing fear. It won’t always go perfectly, but at least you have an opportunity to get your message out if you at least try. I’ve found networking to be a great way to practice your technique. It’s typically a small group of 30 business people all wanting to do the same thing as you. Get their message out. So, you’re in the company of people who are just as concerned as you about their delivery to you!
I read a good piece in Entrepreneur.com by Charlie Harary that will help you and you can read it by clicking here.
All the best.
